Corners of my showroom: Unbridled Studio

It’s not hard to fall in love with Unbridled Studio - offering a diverse range of pieces, which can be layered and worn in a multitude of ways, the whole styling process is bespoke for each and every bride. We take a look inside their studio, a symphony of style, creative vision and innovation.

How did it all start for Unbridled Studio – how did you fall in love with the industry?

Before launching UNBRIDLED STUDIO, I designed luxury ready-to-wear and bridal for many years for an iconic London brand. Whilst working there I had the opportunity to design my own wedding dress. It was incredibly special and reinforced my passion for that particular aspect of design, later paving the way for launching the brand several years later. Eveningwear and bridal have always held a particularly special place in my heart. These pieces allowed so much time for development, evolution and creativity and with that the whole process of designing these special pieces has always felt so luxurious to me. What I’ve brought into Unbridled Studio from my RTW experience is the styling and ‘collection’ element. In addition to beautifully crafted standalone gowns, there are so many pieces that have to work and style together in a wider collection sense.

What inspired the design of your studio space?

Our studio is based in the most beautiful building in the centre of Liverpool, the architecture is so unique. It was important that our studio was in a vibrant location and felt like an oasis of calm above the city. The building is full of character so we have kept things modern and simple with enough space to let the collection breathe and speak for itself.

What’s included in the Unbridled Studio experience?

The basis of our bridal experience is attention to detail. There are no gimmicks or frills so to speak. It’s about design and allowing the time and space for brides to explore that with us. Whether this is working through the collection and finding the perfect combination of separates or getting to the end of an appointment to have evolved a whole new bridal look. Our appointments are a very dynamic and creative experience and each one is totally unique.

What is your favourite piece from the new collection?

Our new collection is still evolving but we have some incredibly special pieces and new fabrications that we are really excited about. The pieces layer on beautifully to our first collection allowing our partners to work the new pieces seamlessly into their existing offers.

If you weren’t a bridal designer, what would you be doing?

I would definitely still be designing, but it would probably be for somebody else. Designing for women is definitely part of my identity!

What’s the first dress you ever designed?

On a personal level, I’ve been creating dresses since my hands were big enough to hold a pair of scissors. In a professional capacity, the one that springs to mind is an asymmetric fluid silk gown, it was soft white (ironically) with a plunging neckline and meters of gathered silk cinched at the waist with a structured leather belt. It was my first season as a junior designer and I remember being backstage at LFW and seeing it on the catwalk and I just thought ‘Wow. This is all I ever want to do’. It was a high that I can’t describe and one that has underpinned my whole career.

Who’s a celebrity bride you’ve always dreamed of designing for?

If I could travel back in time, the dream client would be Jackie Kennedy. She had a timeless sense of style that still looks so relevant today. A true style icon. I’m lucky enough to have had a number of celebrities wearing my designs over the years and it is always a ‘pinch me’ moment. But any bride (celebrity or not) choosing to wear one of my designs for their wedding day is the biggest privilege.

If your dresses had a soundtrack, what song would it be?

When I think about a soundtrack to the collection, I suppose it would be the tracks that we play in the studio that create a certain atmosphere for the brides and that reflect the brand. At the moment we have ‘Leisure’ on loop. It’s relaxed, effortlessly cool, modern but also nostalgic and not remotely bridal or clichéd.

If you could give brides one piece of advice when choosing their gown, what would it be?

Don’t let others cloud your judgment.
